Adobe Photoshop Tips and Tutorials
Color Correction (made easy).
In this section of the tutorial we will continue with
our original image
.  Using the locations for the
shadows and highlights that we marked in the
previous section we will make very accurate color,
contrast and brightness adjustments.
So, lets get
started.
1.  I am going to assume that you have followed this work flow along and have your
shadows and highlight areas marked.  Now, click on the "
New Adjustment Layer"
icon at the bottom of the Layers palette.  On the menu that pops up click on
"
Curves".
2.  The Curves Dialogue box will come up.  First, press the CAPS LOCK key on your keyboard
so that it is on.  Now click on the shadow eyedropper (it's the dark one on the left of the
Curves Dialogue box).  Now move your cursor over the image and it will turn into a bullseye (if
your CAPS LOCK key is on).  Align the bullseye with the
shadow target on the image (it will
h
ave a small "1" next to it if you have followed along) until it disappears.  When it disappears
you have it perfectly aligned with the darkest pixel in the image - CLICK and release the
mouse button and you will see a subtle shift in the color of the image.  Follow the same
procedure for the Highlights eyedropper (the white one on the right).
Click on the eyedropper
and move your bullseye over your highlight pixel (number 2) and click.
Now, Click "OK" and
you have j
ust adjusted the color in your image!  To see a before and after version just click
on the "eyeball" on the curves adjustment layer on the Layers Palette.  This will deactivate
that layer.  Make sure you activate the layer before you proceed with the next s
ection of the
tutorial -
Brightness/Contrast adjustments.

Note:  If you mess up anywhere along the way in this step, don't worry.  Remember the ALT
key trick from the previous s
ectionl?  Hold the ALT key and the "CANCEL" button will turn into
a "RESET" button and you will be able to start over again.
Suggestions and feedback
are welcome!
