On the trip down the "Grand" staircase (I call it that because there are more than 1,000 steps) at Tallulah Gorge, there are
several areas with benches to sit on and take a break from the hike.  On this particular hike in the Fall of '06 the trails,
stairs, landings, and benches were all covered in a blanket of beautifully colored Autumn leaves.

The ruins of New Manchester Manufacturing Company, a textile mill burned during the Civil War, are a central theme to
Sweetwater Creek State Park.  The history, great hiking, fishing, and location (just minutes from downtown Atlanta) make this
peaceful park a great place to visit.
Fort Mountain State Park
Fort Mountain State Park in the mountains of
North Georgia offers some breathtaking
views of surrounding states from its highest
point.  It derives its name from an ancient
stone wall that is thought to have been built
by Indians as a fortification against their
enemies.
